RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manages a team to deliver complex and large scale technology development and solutions that provide business value and meet wider BT group requirements on risk management, compliance and IT asset management functions. Ecourages teams to make use of innovative approaches and tools to solve high impact, complex problems.
• Drive insourcing across strategic BWP locations to build core skills for the future in the Commercial Tooling area.
• Applies technical expertise to provide direction and make commercial decisions focused on wider converged technology lifecycle, setting roadmaps and defining and driving towards a desired future state.
• Drives team’s understanding of customer and user centric technical process design, driving and implementing improvements to enhance the customer and user experience.
• Stakeholder relationships (senior customers, vendors, suppliers) and facilitates mutually beneficial negotiations to develop solutions, ensuring they meet current and emerging business and technical needs.
• Proactively solving business problems and dealing with uncertainty e.g. demand profile planning including location, skill and resource. Manage paradoxical problems on improving the quality of delivery against reducing overall costs.
• Leads on Technology transformation as a lever to transform BT’s commercial performance and operational efficiency.
• Successfully executed business change/s & smart business solutions which results in customer experience improvement, cost savings or revenue opportunities for BT
• Sets standards on the processes to improve and drive standardisation and repeatability. Ensure delivery to timescales
• Manages set of applications related to Corporate Unit functions (ITAM, Risk, Compliance, Assurance etc. areas).
• Contributes to direction setting for the same application.
• Drive the technology roadmaps to deliver the business strategies.
• Delivery and engineering accountability and in-life operational excellence.
• Drive software engineering excellence and the modernisation of engineering practice.
• Management of IT Services suppliers ensuring the selection, commercial agreements and performance of supplier delivered IT services are optimised to meet finance, resourcing, and delivery commitments.
• Innovate on the development, delivery and operational support practices within the engineering space
• Demonstrates thought leadership, technical expertise and a strong customer focus.
• Has the ability to influence and engage with senior stakeholders across Technology and CFU’s, including:
1.CIO teams
2.CFO/HR/Security/Legal MDs
3.Digital Leadership team
4.Enterprise Architecture team
5.Across IT Engineering directors, Principal software engineers and Principal Solution Architects
6 Partner organisations at Account Manager level
• Recognised internally and externally as a technical leader for the relevant functional & technology domains
REQUIRED SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS
• Story-telling with data: strong skills in building the case for change, drawing on data and analytical techniques where appropriate, and communicating this to business audiences
• Business acumen: Knowledgeable in business strategy and the drivers of organisational performance, including people drivers of performance and financial literacy (e.g. business KPIs, business cases)
• Stakeholder Management: Able to develop close relationships with senior customers/vendors/suppliers to facilitate negotiations and manage major escalations.
• Technical Knowledge: Can give comprehensive & technical specialised advice on emerging new Technologies. Provide guidance and counsel on complex and unfamiliar situations and leverages other experts to develop solutions.
• Hold others to account: Ability to demand high ethical standards and values led behaviours ensuring the same understanding in their team. Able to call out misaligned or poor behaviours
• Be agile: Able to lead Leads collaborative and agile ways of working through projects and programmes effectively managing changing priorities.
EXPECTED EXPERIENCE
• Commercial & Risk Awareness: Experience in evaluation of the obvious and subtle commercial risks/issues/challenges especially in relation to a programme/project. Experience in determining the appropriate commercial solutions.
• Software Development Concepts: Experience with the use of a wide range of programming concepts including (but not limited to): recursion, multi-threading, memory management, garbage collection. Aware of and has applied a range of algorithms, for example related to sorting and searching.
• Portfolio Management: Experience in managing portfolios of operational, environmental, data protection, regulatory and legal.
• People Management: Experience in the full employee lifecycle in a Technical environment, including succession planning & performance management.
• Change Management: Experience in transforming solution design & delivery to improve quality & cost and being able to identify and prove concepts for future technology.
